Aviation Financing

We regularly act for airlines, lessors, financial institutions and investors on business and commercial aircraft and aircraft engine financing, leasing and sale and purchase transactions. We regularly advise on aircraft registration, deregistration and insurance matters.

Bilateral and Syndicated Credit Facilities

We have acted as Qatari counsel to several leading local banks and major institutions on syndicated loan facilities, revolving loan facilities, murabaha facilities and working capital facilities. We acted as counsel for the mandated lead arrangers in the financing of a major project for the construction of facilities for the expansion of urea and ammonia production. We regularly act on ship finance transactions.

Bonds and Capital Markets

We regularly advise on the legal and regulatory aspects of global and local bond issues and purchases via debt capital markets and matters affecting securities listed on the Qatar Stock Exchange.  Our clients include the Government of Qatar, global investment and retail banks from New York, London and Paris and other global financial centres as well as Qatari banks and financial institutions. We advised on a 70 million US dollar sukuk issue in Qatar, the first of its kind, as well as the Government of Qatar Investment office in respect of a privately placed offering of amortising floating rate notes on an oil linked price basis.

Derivatives and Complex Financial Transactions

We regularly advise global institutions on Qatar law aspects of structured finance transactions, including netting off provisions, derivatives (including ISDA), stock lending and borrowing, repo and swaps. Our clients include the International Capital Association and the International Securities Lending Association. 

Enforcement and Security Issues

We regularly advise on Qatar Law in relation to the enforceability of loan agreements and complex security arrangements as well as guarantees and pledges with a cross border aspect.

Projects

We have been involved in most of the major infrastructure projects of the last 20 years in Qatar, including gas to liquids, petrochemicals, industrial gases, pipeline construction, aluminium and cooling plants; we advised the promoters of the Pearl, Qatar’s preeminent multi-use development of recent years.

Real Estate Finance

We regularly advise developers, financing institutions and lessors and/or purchasers on all aspects of real estate in Qatar including regulations on purchase and development, financing agreements, and taking and enforcing security over real property. Our clients have included senior lenders to the developers of both large retail malls and multi-use developments.

Restructuring and Insolvency

Advising on financial instruments and complex transactions demands a detailed knowledge of the law of bankruptcy, insolvency, winding up and special administration arrangements overseen by the Qatar Central Bank.  We also advise on corporate restructuring.
